Creative ways to bake with a chocolate bar
If you’re a chocolate lover, you don’t need to add chocolate to anything for it to be enjoyable. You can savor a really high-grade chocolate bar solo, square by delicious square, without any bells and whistles. And with a quality handmade chocolate bar like the ones from Western Chocolate Company, you really don’t need anything else.
But still, it’s fun to be creative sometimes. And with an ingredient like chocolate that marries well with so many flavors, there is a lot that you can do. Chocolate can be used to enhance flavors and turn boring recipes into tantalizing treats. If you’re looking to shake things up in your routine, try out some of these creative ways to use your chocolate bar.
Sub chocolate chips with chocolate bars
Everyone knows that hitting an extra gooey chocolate chip is the most exciting part of any cookie experience (sorry, oatmeal raisin cookies). But what if you could triple that taste experience?
Subbing chocolate chips with chocolate chunks is like turning a chocolate chip cookie up to level 10. When you cut up your chocolate bar into manageable chunks, that turns into a verifiable river of melty goodness in the oven. And because you’re using bigger chocolate pieces, you have no choice but to make the cookie bigger. Which means you can still say you only ate one cookie, even if it was equivalent to three smaller cookies. Score.
Stuff squares into brownies - or anything
The chocolate bar is already separated into bite sized squares, and they’re the perfect size to stuff into anything you want. You can add a surprise center into your cupcakes or cookies. But maybe the best way is to liberally spread the squares throughout your brownie batter. You already have a rich chocolate dessert to enjoy. But when you add the square into the batter, you get a thin concentrated layer within that fudgy block of chocolate.
Sprinkle into ice cream, cereal, or whatever!
When you have a chocolate bar on hand, you don’t just have a nice treat. You have a method of enhancing anything you decide to eat. Digging into a boring bowl of cereal or overnight oats? Maybe a yogurt parfait? Chop up your chocolate bar and add it into the mix for instant enhancement. You can even experiment with flavors by choosing chocolate bars with interesting flavor combinations.
That goes for the other favorite dessert: ice cream. Got a boring bowl of vanilla or a mint chocolate chip that skimped on the chips? Grab your chocolate chunks and get to work stirring some flavor in.
Fry it up
Don’t hate me for saying this, but battering and deep frying a chocolate bar is an indulgence that should be experienced at least once. Some people are disturbed by desecrating a chocolate bar in this way, but it really is delicious. Imagine a piece of funnel cake that was made a few inches wider and stuffed with chocolate. Need I say more? And if you have a deeper pan and some oil, it’s really not so difficult. Pretty soon, you’ll be living everyday like you’re at a local fair.
There are lots of fun ways to enjoy chocolate, and with fun western flavors, the sky is the limit for what you can create. Did you think of something else we didn’t go over on this list? Don’t forget to get in touch and let us know. We’d love to hear from you!
